tackling residencies

all right. try number 1.

what do i want in a residency?
- chill people [therefore i need to go to socials and get to know these folk -> make social outings schedule]
- wide range of work -> do i really care whether its a stand-alone hospital?
- location? its chicago i want, but theres a lot of chicago; how picky should i get about the location? either way ill have a car
- good team of people to work with.

why do i like the community programs so much? i like the program directors, they are less mired in the academics.

let's talk advantage of each chicago program:
1. UofC [22 categ]
- large university, good name
- lots of fellows
- stand alone hospital
- food!! good morning report turnout [lecture style]
- resident lounge
problems: continuity clinic keeps changing, lots of travelling second year; crazy 4th night schedule

2. Rush [11 categ]
- focus on primary care
- good location
- not terribly busy hospital
- brand new er and nicu
- awesome faculty [ie: lowell!!], cool associate director
- good passing rate
- overnight nicu/picu attendings
- no peds er attending
- fancy cardiac ICU/good cards prep
problems: not stand-alone, not busy, weird residents, sad morning report [lecture style]

3. loyola [10 categ]
- nice program director
- good prep for boards; 100% pass rate
- ?intl residents
- cool er attending [ross]
problems: old hospital, not standalone, nothing stands out [cant remember much!], location

4. Christ
- endocrinologist read the whole app in front of me

I'll finish with christ and lutheran in a next post if i ever want to post this.
